Something shifted with the advent of algorithm-driven social media.
Objective reality took a hit.
In the “old days,”” industries had structures. There was a lineage. There was succession. It didn’t take long to discover the elders, the experts, the veterans. Those were the folks you listend to. Those were the people who got paid. They were the only ones who knew what they were talking about.
Over time, if you were serious about learning and growth, you discovered where to get access to the knowledge, experience and direction that could take you to the next level. You had a basic map of the world and you knew where to go to get things.
For anyone lost inside the social media borg, which are entire generations of brainwashed humans, all of that structure is gone.
Reality is whatever the screen shows them. “Objective” has nothing to do with it. Truth has nothing to do with it. Experience is not in the equation. Excellence? Is that something you can get me in 20 seconds? If not, they’re not interested. The experts who BUILT the industry you’re in? No one remembers those names.
Despite this situation sounding like a “problem,” it seems to be an enormous opportunity.
Because what I know is that the shitshow won’t last. Because humans can’t exist on vapid and meaningless for too long. They get hungry. Hungry for meaning.
In the meantime, build your own objective reality for the people you want to serve. Become that source for which people seek. Don’t engage with platforms designed to make humans stupid, to make communication shallow, to degrade the essence of life into a never-ending race to get attention in any way possible.
Don’t beg and grovel for permission from the gatekeepers of attention. Gatekeeping is a temporary (and bad) business.
Use your brain and realize that a GATE is a clue to get more creative. It’s a call for the smart and wise to reimagine a world where those gates become irrelevant.
That’s the real work. Not gaming the bot for a week so you can get the dopamine hit you were trained to care about from a bunch of unqualified eyeballs we’re supposed to refer to as “leads.”
The market will always choose excellence…eventually. These weird abberations that pop up can last for a long time. But they don’t last forever.
Authentic. Excellent. Important. Solving Real Problems for Real People.
Those are the things to focus on.
