Mastery is the forgotten secret. That’s where you work on something for 20 years to become great. If you are capable of doing this, you will stand out.
If you want to be valuable, you really don’t have a choice. You need a financially valuable skill. No bot or borg or fancy gizmo can give you this. That would have little to no value. You must develop this skill yourself. It takes time.
Wouldn’t you know it, every single product or service I’ve ever sold with the word “mastery” in the title completely bombed.
People don’t want it. Because “people” don’t care about mastery. It’s not a status that is exciting to the masses. It is exciting only to the very few.
My recommendation is to become one of the very few. And pursue mastery…of something that is valuable to others.
Once you have it, people around you will wonder how you got it. They will ask you for your secret. And then they will leave, completely underwhelmed, once you explain that it was the result of a lot of hard work over many years.
The truth doesn’t sell to people who have been conditioned to prefer buying lies. So you have to choose the folks you work with very carefully.
If you’re trying to sell mastery, you are looking for an elite level of human. It’s not that they’re better than everyone else, it’s that they are OK accepting the truth about what it takes to succeed.
