a crowd of people in front of a city skyline

I had just gotten off the elevator at my job on Riverside Drive in northern Manhattan when someone in the office said a plane had hid the World Trade Center.

I distinctly remember the time. It was 9:04 A.M.

I spent the next few hours watching on the computer as the entire disaster developed.

At one point, I decided to head home on the other side of Central Park to be with my wife. Everything was shut down so I had to find a taxi and go the entire way around the park to get home.

I remember watching the Today show that morning. That was back when I thought the news was real, not a tool of mass control.

What I remember most about that day and in the weeks following was how that horrific disaster restored humanity’s connection with itself.

People in Manhattan were always friendly, even though that kindness was often hidden under a gruff exterior.

In the days following that event, however, everyone was different. Everyone was open. Kind. Gentle. Forgiving.

This is how humans are. This is the truth about everyone. We all have this on the inside. We just allow a lot of junk, primarily FEAR, to cover it up and make us think “the other” is somehow different than we are.

Division kills. If you allow it inside of you, you will live it outside of you.

If you can remember this with those you love, if you can remember this with your clients, customers and prospects, your entire experience of life will change.

It will brighten. It will soften. It will give you energy instead of rob you of it.

In our work, we are helping humans who are no different than we are. Kindness is the gift we can give. A gift that never runs out. A gift that is free, forever.
